Brilliant design from mathmos. Aduki NI is a rechargeable light, lasting 6-8 hours without a lead, which is splashproof and can be positioned anywhere, even outside. The light effect is created by LEDs, and when turned off Aduki NI looks like a totally silver metallic bean, heavy and perfect to hold in the hand. When turned on Aduki NI comes alive, changing through a spectrum of colours. It is made of metal, a thermoplastic upper case with mirror coating and has silicone soft touch buttons. There are three colourways: blue - red, red - green and blue - green, and Aduki changes colour automatically unless paused. In 1989 David Mulley and Cressida Granger visited Edward Craven-Walker, inventor of the Lava Lamp. They had both been selling lava lamps, and decided to open a shop. They did a deal with Mr and Mrs Walker and wrote this on a peice of A4 paper; they would take over the running of the business and any profit made they would keep. After 5 years they acquired 100% of the company and Mr and Mrs Walker honoured every point written on the paper. Over the next 10 years they re-launched the lava lamp, improved the formula and changed the name from Crestworth to mathmos after the bubbling force in the cult film Barbarella. The company went from strength to strength and in 1999 David decided to move on, leaving Cressida to take the business onto its' next phase. Since 2000 mathmos has concentrated on product innovation staying in the world of light in the home. They specialise in coming up with completely new light technologies and work with really exciting designers to realize beautiful, innovative yet affordable products.
